Step 1 Economy Class

Here is a sketch of my next piece. I call it Economy Class.

The poor guy in the middle is being squashed by the hip hop dude playing his DS on his right and the overweight hot chiquita on his left. A little kid sitting in the seats behind him sticks his sucker in the guys hair (of course the parents gave the kid the sucker to help with the pressure on his ears at take off and landing so he wouldn't scream like a banshee), and the stewardess delivering drinks to the weary travellers is tripping over the plump pump of the hottie in the aisle seat and thereby tossing the drink she was pouring into the air where it will invariably land upon our bedraggled flyer.

I have drawn a grid over the sketch so that I may tranfer my drawing accurately to the 36" x 48" wood panel that I will be sculpting it on.

The Tourists - Finally Finished!

Finally it's Finished!!!
Actually I did finish it last weekend, but my dad arrived on Monday for a visit and to celebrate my upcoming 40th birthday - Hooray!
Anyway, here it is after 47.5 hours of work drawing, sculpting and painting.

Step 5 The Tourists

Here is what I worked on last night and this morning. You can see that I've now painted their hats, glasses, her drink and a base coat on their bathing suits. This afternoon I'm going to paint patterns on their suits and attack their feet! Almost there...... So far I'm quite pleased with the results.

Step 4 The Tourists

I started painting the sky, palm trees, sand and now the skin tone. I'm hoping to finish by the end of the weekend. Tell me what you think so far.

Step 3 The Tourists

Okay, so I've sculpted The Tourists using Sculptamold, a paper and gypsum compound, and I'm just waiting for it to dry so that I can paint it. This is what it looks like so far.

Old Stone House

Hi Everyone,

My handsome hubby has been so great these past few days and has taken the kids out fishing keeping them occupied so that I can do what I love to do - Art!!!

So I finally finished my Old Stone House! It took a bit because I switched gears and sculpted my Tourists first which I've still got to photograph so I can show you what step three looks like. But I finished doing that yesterday and therefore I was able to spend the whole day painting - Hooray! It was so great, I was right in the groove and really didn't come up for air except to go to the bathroom - I even forgot to eat! Anyway, I'm quite pleased with the final result. You can give me your feedback about the finished product, but in the meantime I'm going to start working on the next project.

By the way I've entered my Nude Sculpture of a Pregnant Woman Making Love into a competition put on by www.eroticsignature.com as well. I should get the results by August 22. I'm really excited about all these competitions - even if this one is a little more racy than I usually get involved with!

Step 2 - The Tourists

Here is Step 2 of my piece entitled The Tourists. I've drawn my tourists out on the wood panel (didn't take a picture to show you because it wouldn't really show up in a photo), and now I've balled up newspaper to act as my "armature" underneath for when I begin sculpting with the Sculptamold. It helps to keep the final painting from weighing a ton! I know it doesn't look like much other than a paper skeleton, but once I've sculpted it you'll get the idea.

The Old House - Step 2

So the other day I sculpted this old house on a small 10" x 12" wood panel and I've been waiting for it to dry while finishing my sculpture for the Mother Competition at the Woman Made Gallery.

Tonight I sanded down the edges and painted on a gel medium just to smooth it out a little bit to make the painting go a bit easier.

Tomorrow I'll start painting it, but first I'm going to sculpt a large 36" x 48" wood panel of a sketch I made called The Tourists. That way while The Tourists dries I'll paint The Old House.

For The Tourists I've already sketched out on the wood panel my drawing, so step two will be using newspaper to create the "armature" for me to sculpt around. I'll take pictures tomorrow to show everyone.

Chat Tomorrow!

Power, Control, Dominance...Vulnerability, Trust, Abandon...Woman, Mother, Crone - Beautiful

I just finished this piece and have been photographing it and filling in the entry form for an art competition in Chicago at the Woman Made Gallery. The competition is entitled Mothers, and the artwork could have anything to do with motherhood in any form.

Let me know what you think!
